Vorlon Transport: Close Enough For Government Work
Description: I guess this is just about finished. There's still a few details missing but, as the title says, it's close enough for government work. :-)

By the way, I've taken a suggestion and added a secondary light source under the ship to reveal more of it's shape and dimension. If anyone has any other suggestions I'm all ears. :-)

I still think IBL would look really good on this. I've never seen Babylon 5 (Is that right?) But the spaceship mats don't look quite realistic. When I think of spaceships I think more metallic, silvery, textures, not glowing spotted yellow and blue ones. But there again I've never seen or even heard of Babylon 5, so I would still reccomend that you be the first judge of the image, and if this is what you're after, stick with it.

Just some rambling comments...

Funny choice of materials but since these are organic beings, why not? Good idea about the secondary light, it is perhaps a bit too bright.

Nice model! I second the suggestion about the material choice. If using radial lights, you can get away with specularity to create a nice organic fleshy feel to the surface. Also consider subtle bump. If the inner surfaces (blue) of the wings does glow? I can't remember it is too long ago. But consider placing lightsources on the underside of the wings, use ambient channel to make them "glowy" and then the radials can cast a blue light down the hull of the craft thus giving you an excuse for coloured lightsources close to the ship. This will help reveal the pleasing shape of the model. At the moment it looks a bit "flat" with your present choice in materails and lighting. I know you can make it look better than that! Very impressed with the model!

AWSOME!

You have pretty much captured it. I never really was into the program but this I do remember. Very nice job!

Thank you all for the compliments and suggestions. I guess my motivation during this project was more centered on showing off my modeling prowess than anything else. It has also been a good learning experience. The big victory with this one was learning how to export the model with multiple shading domains exported as meshes. This gave me the ability to apply the blue shimering mat to just the inside surfaces of the engine petals.

This was my last attempt at mimickery. Now that I am getting familiar with basic methods and ready to explore other modeling tools my future models will be original designs.

My imagination is straining at the leash! :-)

The materials could be made better but the model looks really good. It has a bumble bee feel.

Thanks Rashad,

Just remember that I'm not a pro like you guys yet. I'm learning as I go.

For my next trick, I'll get a little more down-to-earth....well sort of. It's the B-24 Arrowhead Supersonic Bomber......with IBL!
