A small cake.
A small cake.

A small cake.
Description: Well, this seemed like a very simple idea. I'd make a cake. Oh yes, how easy... No... Oh the acutal modeling was straightforwrds enough. The paper base and the cream splodge were made in wings. The top of the cake is a terrain. The smarties are flattened spheres. The sprinkles, clearly, clynders. The challenge lie in getting materials that actually looked edible. Which I hope I have achieved. But not after hours and hours of experimentation. DOF applied. And light is provided by a combination of three coloured radials (to stimulate specular response) and Horo's living-night1_amx9-corr-wb.hdr. Enjoy, but remember to clean your teeth afterwords.

Yummy!

The cupcake looks so real I could almost smell it! Very cool lighting effects. Are you using pos and neg lights? I'll give you a 5er. Man it looks so good! You got me hungry!

I can't spot anything that would tell me its not a real cake, other then the perfectness of it. The wrapper looks like it has some random shapes to it through. nice one! and I quote tiny it makes me hungry.

That one goes nicely with a cup of coffee or a cup of tea. Yeah, looks definitely edible, enjoyable, even. The paper base looks a bit like aluminium to me, less than paper. Perhaps a bit of transparency would have improved this. But it that isn't worth a 5/5, I don't know what is. Oh - and if you eat a lot of those cookies, don't complain afterwards that your weight went up.

All the lights were positive. The only trick I used was to turn the shadowcasting of the ground plane off and allow both the hdr and a light placed under the ground to uplight a portion of the base to simulate the effect of light bouncing off the white surface.

Now that I've wiped the fingerprints off my display pannel I have to say SHOOT! I was really ready for that delicious looking cupcake and it's DIGITAL! What a rotten trick! Now I have to figure out a way to digitize myself so I can eat it! Where's my old copy of Lawnmower Man? ;-)

Great Job, David, even though you have me all frustrated because I can't eat it. GRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!

Great realism. The whipped cream is amazing, and the sprinkles are placed very well. Good job.
