Description: I've been pondering for a while in what direction I'd like to develop my images. I don't necessarly see that producing photorealistic images as being the whole aim of render software (at least for me) and would like to explore the possibilites offered by a fusion of 2d graphic and 3d design. So here is an experiment. Lit with Horo's moon_bluegrey hdr. The ground plane has been set to none shadow casting and a second transparent blue plane placed beneath that to provide strong blue tinted light from underneath. The earth came out of the supplied objects with byrce but has been modified to provide a cutaway view of an inner sphere. Other elements were formed from bryce primitives. Although the main design elelments are based around a 2D abstract design I've scatted them back and forth in 3 dimensions to create some kind of "tension" between the layers. Not quite a 2d piece not quite 3d not really an optical illusion. Not really sure what it is all about either. See what you think.

Interesting effect, the way the glass warps what's behind it. One of the rings appears to be lodged in the Earth. I would remove it and give it a little more space. Also the diamond/rotated square in the bottom right corner is a little out of place. Since the shapes you are using are spheres, circles, and squares, a diamond doesn't quite fit. Especially since it is a lighter blue than the rest, it really sticks out too much. Otherwise, good job, intersting scene.

I think its wow cool, interesting choice of shapes and materials, as well as technical aspects. 5/5 for me.

WOW!!!

I love this one David! The colors work well with the shapes. This would make a great wall poster or painting. Very nice! if they gave 10's that is what I would give you, but since they don't I give a 5/5.

Very interesting concept. Hard to tell the 2D from the 3D, almost irritatingly hard, but that's the idea isn't it?

So that is the earth we're seeing- wondered about that. I'll agree with Tina, this would make a great print. Beautiful lighting and design, you've got my 5. I hope we'll be seeing more like this, the '1' on the end of the title seems to promise more to come...

Very modern design, not your style (which is meant as a neutral statement, just an observation). I have no qualms about the colour of square standing on a corner. It fits to the earth sphere. I get the strange impression of a cool (as in cold, not as in groovy) and empty picture. But it is complete and the colours are very nicely choosen. 5/5.

This work has and 2 defined dimensions are seen affluent, but the third dimension note in the moon, an exelent work with the lights and the shades simply huge.

Thanks for your encouraging comments. You seem to like this image. Which is good. I confess I'm somewhat at a loss with respect to my own feelings towards this subject. I applied conventional theories towards the composition and what I already knew about lighting scenes for effect, but towards the subject, as Horo observed, I am cold. My scenes are usually about something, at some point, the scene expresses some concept - I do not mean in any special deeper sense, but you know a picture of a thing, is that thing. But here, there is a distinct lack of subject - nothing really to relate to - hence my ambivolence. I'll ponder some more and see if I can't come up with something more focused. Maybe I should introduce some text into the next image?
