Cement Jungle 1 hdr version
Description: Ibl is great. In this case it's the beach probe hdr set at 32 lights. I like the effect because the shadows are deeper than in the other version. But in this hdr the primary sun is not much stronger than the blue ambient light. I like a strong sunlight. The scene now looks a bit of a blue wash. too blue for me. Thoughts?

The strong sunlight is better. You might have to boost up the beach probe using HDRShop to get more power from the sun or use a stronger HDRI. I think if it gets brighter, it also looks better.

Have you tried DOF with these images yet? It might help a little bit... Looks great, keep working!

Yes DOF would make a big difference, but its a pain to get right. I would try and use distance mack instead and GIMPO or Photoshop.

Horo as always at least one step ahead of me, I have begun to test out a few selfmade hdris. I'm going for a neutral hdr that has blue ambient but bright sun. I will have it completed soon. Self made hdrs are the way to go!

Icecreamman, to begin with I love ice cream! Depth of field had not yet occured to me as I have not yet chosen a "focus" for the scene, as gat suggested I need a space ship or something to give us a reason for being up so high in the first place. But I agree 100% that dof would be great here and would look very realistic. Thanks for the idea.

Right, well, I can see from a glance at the new images that this is the last in the series of what I think I can safely presume are refinements. The image is dizzyingly complex, which I guess must mean it must eat up a frightening ammount of RAM. Maybe this is mentioned in an earlier encarnation? However, the materials don't seem to quite match with the geometry. I know that would be something that is very difficult to achieve, they are good, don't get me wrong, but they do seem a bit accidental in places - maybe the windows could be turned on and off according to slope to make them seem more intensional? DOF for this image, there are two hazards, one - time, and two - DOF tends to be better suited to smaller subjects, if applied here I believe there would be a risk of it makeing the city shrink to the size of a model. A black or dark grey haze can be utilised in something like this to strip colour from the things in the distance and give an illusion of colour perspective. I look forwards to reading the earlier versions. I think maybe the shore on the distant terrains is a little bright. Something more muted so as not to draw away attention from the city. Impressive work.

I wonder, did you make all of it entirely in bryce? Did you export them and reimport the objects? and how much ram does it use during render?
