Still looks AWESOME! :-)

You still haven't told me what that crystal spire is. At first I was thinking it might be a sheid projector but it would have to be centrally located to properly serve that function. Being it's surrounded by what appear to be very large solar pannels it looks like it could be some kind of defensive weapon of unimaginable power. Some kind of GigaLaser perhaps? One big enough to reduce a planetary assault ship to a puff of smoke while it's still out of effective attack range?

spektyr, its probably just Macdonald's fast food restaurant. lol <----funy <----before lol

Ok that texture is really too small for bryce engine to handle. For one I would render with the IBL at lowest setting. The texture-- I think that by changing the frequency up in the deep texture editor those windows will become big enough to render, thats why I didn't even notice them the first time. THe landscape in the background still looks out of place to me, but me I am kind off picky about things like this so nvm me. I just want for you to really show off the beauty of the city, its a really great model.

For rendering, I know how bryce sucks and tiny things, one thing I was thinking of trying is rendering at 2x the wanted resolution, but without AA, and then scaling it down. try it see what happens.......................

Thanks guys. I rendered this one to show that hdr is great but does not always have a profound effect, especially in my case because I used colored primary and secondary lights alot like an hdri or ibl. Generally I like using secondaries because I have complete control over them, as opposed to hdri which means finding the "right one." I like the effect the ibl has on this particular scene though the scene is a bit too blue for me. hdr casts shadows from all directions. My secondaries do not usually. They could but it would leave alot of banding since I used 1 primary and 4 secondaries,I would get five sets of shadows. At least with ibl the minimum setting is 16 lights, and the more lights the less obvious the banding. This way Finding just the right hdr may be the issue. This was a fast render too even with all that water. The nightime version looks alot better hdr than with standard lighting.

As far as the mat and windows go, we are very very high up so I am not expecting to see many individual windows. Assumming that even the smallest building is actually a full skyscraper, the windows would seem very small from this distance and height. I have new versions rendering that are closer and the windows show up. My monitor is big so I tend to render at about 1600x1000 but images that size do not fit for upload here. This is an image that loves being seen at higher resolutions for all those windows and details.

Spektyr, the item on the left is pretty much what you figure. It is used to desalinate the water. The panels can absorb or radiate energy. The technology used for the filtration process is also useful as a weapon. Go figure! In many earlier versions that structure was in the center but I thought the scene might look more random and naturally chaotic if it was off centered. More to come. Thanks. I will continue experimenting with the ibl!

"spektyr, its probably just Macdonald's fast food restaurant."

No way. McDonalds has the Golden Arches, remember? ;-)

"It is used to desalinate the water." Oh. Infinitely useful.....but boring. LOL ;-)

"The panels can absorb or radiate energy. The technology used for the filtration process is also useful as a weapon. "

Now that's what I'm talking about! I just look at that giant crystal and think "Focusing Element".

One of these days I have to do that orbiting solar powered EM Mass Driver, or Rail Gun if you prefer, I've been cooking up for you guys.

Then there's another marvelous device I was 'designing', and I use that word literally, an orbiting solar energy collector that would focus sunlight into a pseudo-laser and aim it at a conversion station on the ground. It uses an electro-reactive coating on the main parabolic reflector. A constant current must be present for it to remain reflective. If for any reason the beam moves off-target the current is cut and the reflector goes transparent. I know I love wandering into the Sci-Fi Zone a lot but this gizmo could actually work and, except for completely designing the control systems and software needed for operation, I've worked out the basic theories of how it functions and as many safeguards as I could think of, including a conical solar wind deflector that makes it easier to keep in position.

Have I been babbling? Sorry. ;-)

Fabulous city you've designed here. Is this for Humans or Xenos?

The contrast is better on this one. The small skyscrapers are better defined. I think the background landscape fits.

After contemplating the two later scenes, I think I favour this camera angle over the later one. Still not convinced by the materal choice for the distant terrain. But the shape is fine.

Much better! Although all of them are brilliant! This one just caught my eye! It looks crisper. Very, very beautiful!

Wow

I think this is an amazing render..im trying right now to build a city and i find it tedious to the extreme placing those buildings..did you model this in bryce?
