Pastel Dimensions 1
Description: Taking a slightly different direction in my abstract reflections study, this new image is based on a new even more complex mirror box and a transparent sphere. It still uses the 8 point 4 color lighting I've used in previous images but this time the effect is quite mellow. I find the pastel shades very soothing.

This one, blown up to a 36" x36" size and placed in a nice frame, would be absolutely awesome hanging on the wall here in my office/bedroom. I guess I'll have to settle for the 8"x10" copy I just printed on Canon Photo Pro paper.......for now. Actually, this and other prints I've made and framed are going to be displayed at an art show coming up in the begining of June.

I think this is the most beautiful image I've done so far. If you look very closely the 3D effect is astounding. I hope you all enjoy it.

All comments are, as always, very welcome.

Yes this would definately be impressive if reproduced on a larger scale. A print a couple of metres along each side would not look out of place in any large public space. 5/5 from me. Where is the art show?

Thanks David!

The art show is going to be in a place called Conference House Park in the town of Tottenville on the southernmost tip of Staten Island, NY. A group I recently joined with, the Staten Island Artists Co-op is invited to participate and I've decided to show works from my abstract reflections projects printed on 8.5"x11" Canon Photo Pro glossy photo paper and mounted in el cheapo frames I got at Staples. The frames are just to protect the prints and I can't afford anything better right now. I was thinking of bringing my Dell notebook to show the Rainbow Dimensions animations but I don't know if I'll have the time to do a presentation sized render of one of them, much less both of the ones I have so far. I'm not even half way through the full quality copies I'm planning to post for you guys and they're only 200x200. I can always try dropping the screen res to the lowest setting (800x600) and play them that way. At superfine AA and 30fps they should look big enough and play smooth as silk that way.

You're right, the pastell colours look very nice. Even at this size, the 3D-ishness is amazingly pronounced. Many objects but the place does not appear overly crowded. I hope you will get due praise at the art show. I give you an advance now: 5/5.

Just think it would be to have something like this under a glass floor and a few dozen meters long. Standing above it would be really cool.
Great job spectyr 5/5

Thank you Friends! Yes. I think this is my favorite image so far and.......<with that intense creative light in his eyes a smile spreads across spek's face> it's definitely worthy of an animation! B^D

Not a cold

It's definitely bronchitis and it's flaring up pretty bad. I'm going to the doctor tomorrow for some antibiotics, unless it gets too bad to endure tonight and I have to take a trip to the emergency room. I'm not looking forward to that I assure you. I may be out of commission for a few days. If so I'll say "Have fun while I'm gone" now, just in case.

Thank you, Gat.

Before I get too sick I'm setting up 2 animations of this setup. They will be the same general format as the last two:
200x200
No AA
15 fps
MS Video 1 at 100% quality

The only difference between the two will be Ray Depth, one at RD 4 and one at RD 5. I need you guys to tell me which one you prefer.

Get ready for these, guys! You've liked the Rainbow Dimensions animations I've done so far but these will completely blow you away. ;-)

I'll let you know when the first one is posted.

Does one ray make that much difference?

Not a major difference but with all the mirrored surfaces I use it does make a noticable difference.

New Animation File available

Ok. It's been a nightmare but I've found an anonymous file hosting site that allows files up to 80 meg. The download link for the new animation at Ray Depth 4 is:

http://dl4.ohshare.com/v/206297/pdat1.avi.html

I'm testing it now. It's a web page with a download link and the file can be saved to your hard drive. You get the standard web browser download progress window so you can see the file coming in. Looks like average speed is sbout 60 KB/sec. The file size is 38.6MB. The speed actually increased to over 80KB/sec and the total DL time was 7:45.

I'll upload the other file tomorrow. Time for me to hit the pillows. LOL

Here's the one with RD 5. There's a noticeable increase in complexity but nothing overwhelming.

http://dl4.ohshare.com/v/1326387/pdat2.avi.html

From now on I'll probably be using this free anonymous file hosting site for all my animation files. The maximum single file size is 80 meg. From what I can see there is no limit to how many files you can upload. Files larger than 80 meg can be cut into segments with WinRAR or any other app of your choosing. You give no information about yourself. Simply browse to the file on your hard drive, enter a file description, mark the "I agree to the terms" check box and upload. You get a download link when the upload is complete. Here's a link to the upload page.

I'm going to the emergency room for diagnosis and treatment this morning. I should be back later. I don't feel too bad this morning but that's because I haven't had any coughing fits yet. I want to get some medication before that starts happening. Anyone who's ever had a bad case of bronchitis knows what I mean. :-(

I'm glad to be able to report that both links worked fine. For the first animation, I was the 4th to download it, for the second I was the first.

Hope you got better, man.

Thanks for the report and the get well wish, Horo. I'll be fine. I got the antibiotics and some allergy medication today. I'll be feeling rotten for a few days but I'll bounce back. I always do. ;-)

Now my only two questions are:
1)How long did it take for the transfers?
2)What do you think?

Did you click on the words "Download File" on the upper left of the page just above where it says "Sponsored Links:"? The words are grey and not underlined. I thought the page was poorly designed when I first started using this service

Download was quite swift, they could deliver about 5 Mbps. However, I could get only one file at the time, a second instance was not accepted. So I downloaded one after the other.
The second one is nicer, though it is difficult to tell. They are both amazing. Great job. Obviously, you've mastered animation, too.

Awsome!!!

I love colorful things. It does'nt have to be anything imparticular either. Very nice unison. It would make a great poster!

I think the video was good, but in terms of motion the first two were better.

Thank you all for the comments.

Horo - As usual I'm honored by such kudos from an accomplished artist like yourself. As for having mastered animation, I'm just getting started, my friend.
;-)

Tina - I share your love of color, as you can see by some of my latest work. Yes it would make an awesome poster. Some day I'll do a super large render of it so I can have it printed and framed. Like I originally said, it has a very soothing effect on me. :-)

Gat - Yes, The first ones had more motion than these because the lights had a much narrower beam and that accentuated all the changes more. Like I mentioned to Horo, I'm just getting started with the evolution of my techniques and I'll be doing more elaborate projects soon. I've aquired a liking for the challenges that choreographing an animation presents me with. Most of what I'm doing seems only like works in progress since I'm constantly thinking of new variations. It's all been pretty simple so far so I intend to keep posing new challenges to myself to keep things from getting boring. Next on my list? Two words, "Dancing Metaballs" ;-)
