Huntcliff progression1
Description: A reworking of the Huntcliff image from scratch. The terrain and the overall composition are the only constants from the previous images. Horo's moon_bluegrey.hdr provides the ambient light via IBL. The sky, as you will recognise is a photograph which has been blended into the existing lighting set up. Simple idea and then a lot of very fiddly tweaking. The boulders in the foreground were modeled by myself because I found the stones provided by bryce were a little too angular.

I like this texture better on the cliffs, not so much on the rocks. I am not sure exactly how it would look in a real situation, but I think there should be less vegetation. At list not on all of them. Either way its good to mix up textures that differ only in some ways, lets say they have same bump map, but different shades of color, or the opposite.
The next thing is that blue halo or light on top left is just not convincing enough. I think that this particular scene would look really cool with god rays and not much sun light (at a low angle).
You think you could cook up another one with god rays and no IBL, but using secondaries instead?

cheers

Yes, the blue halo around the sun is amiss. I'm less sure about the vegetation on the rocks, not living by the sea I have to resort to my memory which means, I better shut up. I'm mostly concerned about the haze. If the third and fourth cliff are already this far in the haze, the horizon in the distance looks too dark. But again, where I live, the horizon is far up so I'm not competent to advice how it ought to be. Perhaps move the camera a triffle down to hide the horizon with the rocks.

I like this landscape more than the huntcliff saltburn, the clouds looks more real and the rocks with moss are amazing, very very nice.

Me gusta esta vista mas que la de huntcliff saltburn, las nubes se ven mas reales y las rocas con el musgo son sorprendentes, muy muy bonito.

Thank you for your comments and advice, hopefully you can see in the images that follow I've been paying close attention to your suggestions.

Thanks also for the translation Caperh! I do intend to learn Spanish - one day... somehow though, I never seem to get around to it.

Best one for sure. The bluish ambient lighting is the right choice, be it from ibl or secondary lights. The influence of the blue sky seems to be present in the scene because of that blue ambient light. The sky is great. I feel though that at the horizon line the sky seems to feel a touch too close. the blue halo is not my favorite, but forgivable. This image is very photographic. To find a single flaw is a study in triteness. 5/5. Your haze settings seems sbout right to me, as these cliffs are high. There are some scaling issues I feel.

Like I often do, I spend so much effort on lighting and materials that I sometimes present beautiful environments that are lacking a central focus. I feel that may be happening here. The focus is the beauty of the landscape itself, but I know you and you probably plan to add an eye grabber. Love it!

Hmn... I see what you mean about the lack of focus. What I'd like maybe would be a little wooden boat with a red sail... I'll see what I can manage. Thanks for the suggestion.
