Kaleidoscopica Ultimate
Description: Ladies and gentlemen here it is. My crowning achievement to date. Done completely in Bryce with no post work. I couldn't even bring myself to marr it with a copyright. The absolute final and finest image in my Kaleidoscopica series, Kaleidoscopica Ultimate.
:-)

I don't want to go on too much about this one. I simply offer it to you all to gaze upon and appreciate.

Ok. Enough with the ego trip. ;-)

I hope you all enjoy looking at this image as much as I enjoyed the challenges of producing it. All comments welcome.

BTW, before anyone starts mentioning spots that don't look like they belong where they are, these spots are reflections and just show up more due to contrasting colors. I'll adjust things better when I do the animation I'm planning.

5/5

You were right this is the best one. 5/5

Thank you!

Thanks gat.

Your wish will come true! I just set up a 30 sec. animation at Rate=30 fps Size=400x400 pixels Ray Depth=10. I'll probably have to post it on my temp site and post a link to it here. This is a simple setup with the sphere, lights and perspective camera grouped and traveling from the top of the pyramid to the base. It should provide pretty interesting results. I can do a more elaborate one later. ;-)

Looks like that animation will be ready some time next week, and I don't mean this coming week. LOL

On second thought if neither system crashes it may be ready by Thursday. :-)

Oh yeah Spektyr, it's a sure 5/5 from me too. Just amazing. What an interesting way to use Bryce. Abstract but beautiful. Complex yet simple. I like it.

What resolution is it spektyr, maybe if you make it really small, so that it don't take up much time to render?

Faultless

5/5 - good contrast on this one and, clearly, very colourful.

Thank you everybody!

Ever since I first thought about using mirrored surfaces to create abstractions I've been playing with different configurations and lighting. Now that I want to really get down to it and have been spending a lot of time working I've hit upon a couple of interesting effects. This particular lighing arrangement is by far the most effective. I used round conical spots with 50% edge softness. The edge softness is what really made the image come alive. The dimentionality is just incredible and the way the colors blend is so beautiful. This is actually the type of visual impact I set out to achieve. I'm literaly ecstatic! :-)

gat- I'm rendering the animation at 400x400 and it looks like it will finish in a bit under 4 days if all goes well. I am using a full 30 fps frame rate so it will be smooth as swiss chocolate. The 30 second duration may make it too slow so I may decrease it to 15 in the second render.

Thank you all once again for the kudos. They really make this achievement so much more fulfilling for me. :-)

Agreed, beautiful. I like the contrast of the round and the angular. It is nicely emphasised with all those colours. 5/5 from me, too.

One thing life is teaching me right now is patience. ;-)

Besides, I want it big enough so all the detail changes can be seen as clearly as possible. NTSC vertical resolution is 525 (about 480 worth of picture) so it should be viewable. Later I'll push it up to NTSC standard once I have a video that I feel is worth sending to Odyssey Productions. They?re open to new material from new artists and producers that they can use in their videos. I have a few of their DVDs and this is just the type of animation they would go for. In actuality I?ve seen them use material that isn?t as dazzling as what I?m about to produce. At the very least I'd love to hear their opinions of this particular imagery. I would consider a simple ?FAR OUT, DUDE!? from them to be a rave review. Who knows? I may get lucky and they?ll use my submission. The royalty would help me buy better equipment and 3DS Max 9 or Maya 8, etc. :-)

By the way, 200 out of 900 frames are now complete.

Hey, that's a bit treatcherous, using your money made out of Bryce to go awhoring after 3DS max and Maya! I don't know. Where's your loyalty?

Now David, I never said that I was going to just toss away Bryce in favor of more professional 3D applications. You just have to admit that Bryce is sorely lacking in very useful features that these pro apps have. There's nothing disloyal about using other apps in combo with Bryce, is there? ;-)

POLITICIAN!!?

Now I'm hurt. Please be careful. You don't want to put me in Marvin mode do you? Oh what's the use? If everything in the universe has purpose then nothing I do can change anything. It's said that we all speak for the universe in one way or another. Here I am, brain the size of a planet, and the universe is calling me a 'politician'(spoken as if I just ate something excruciatingly nasty tasting). Pardon me for breathing which I never do anyway so I don't know why I bother to say it oh god I'm so depressed. If you like I could just throw myself into a singularity, I mean if that's what you really want. Would you like me to throw myself into a singularity? I'm not bringing you down, am I? I would hate to think I was bringing you down. Life. Don't talk to me about life.

The first 10 million year were the worst, the second 10 million years they were the worsrt too, after that he went into a bit of a decline... but my all over favourite Marvin moment was when he fell into the bottom of a deep dark hole - which coincidentally reminded him of life... and he began to ponder if it really mattered, and if it mattered, if it really mattered that it mattered. The most frustraiting thing about Douglas Adams was that he didn't write more. In fact he was famously bad at meeting with deadlines and famously in love with technology, an Apple Mac I think it was - which just goes to show that even a genious can make bad decisions. My favourite book of his has to be Dirk Gentleys holistic dectective agency - and the moment where Dirk produces a scribble on a piece of paper, anounces that that is the answer to the mystery/problem and finally points out that all they have to do is find out what language the answer is witten in to solve it - is a masterpiece of diversion worthy of any of our fine leaders. But I imagine the thing that would be most approprite to talk about particularly with refernce to your kellidoscopic images is the Total Perspective vortex - and the fairy cake - another example of extrapolation, smoke and mirrors, Deep Thought got as far as compound interest and rice pudding - before even being turned on, Zarniwoop kept and entire universe in his office/breefcase and the Heart of Gold instant improbability drive was conjoured out of thin air using finite improbability. No doubting the genious of D.A. to make something out of nothing - or at least not very much. And now you've persuaded Bryce to do the same trick for you!

A quickie on Douglas Adams. You mentioned Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, which has to be one of my favorites too, but what about The Long Dark Tea Time Of The Soul? I really have to read those again but the one part I can remember was when Thor is being chased by a giant eagle, or something to that nature. Good Ol' Douglas definitely was a mad genius.

OH! I just remembered another brillient creation of his. Starship Titanic, the computer game. I think the most irritating thing about that game was having to run back to the smart bomb, voice by John Marwood Cleese, and force it to loose it's count and start over again. LOL

I was not quite so keen on The Long Dark Tea Time Of The Soul, as I was the Holistic Detective Agency... that's not to say I didn't like it, just not as much. Nor have I ever played Starship Titanic. I tend to either play viceral shooters or daft puzzel games, currently, for example, I'm playing Bookworm Adventures, downloaded via Steam - which is extra challenging for me since it involves spelling. I did play, long long ago, a hitch hikers guide text adventure game on the Spectrum - with all of its 48k of memory. Maybe I should look that up again on some of these emulator sites... Nostalgia though, ain't what it used to be.

"I did play, long long ago, a hitch hikers guide text adventure game on the Spectrum"

Ah the old DOS days. Remember Zork? The Hitchhikers Guide game you mention was based on that text only game format. What about the original Prince of Persia?

Those were the days......before Bill Gates invented the system crash!
