Egyptian Room 3
Description: Ok I decided to give this room another try with bryce 6.1.

Looks better, and I managed to get a somewhat relistic looking fire on the pyre. . . at least I hope so.

Fire looks good, the lighting is working really well in this image. Looks better to me. The floor is maybe a little uniform and bland compaired with the rest of the materials used in the scene. The only thing I'd consider would be replacing the light that is taking the place of the fire with a few dimmer scattered lightsources of slightly varying hue just to remove the hard edge from the shadow region cast by that light. But that really is a very minor point. 5/5

Same is what david said, the fire should have a dew dimm lights scattered around, to get more of a realistic lighting from it, instead of a point light. And the shadows of the round pots on the right should be much less black, and more toward the wall. But still, to get this far is a hell of lot of work I think.

wow

It looks like you have removed the original render from your gallery. Too bad as many would appreciate the difference between the two. The original was baked in ambient materials and this one has none at all except in the places where it belongs. The deep shadows are terrific and very 3d. The lighting is indeed very good in this scene. You also seem to have disabled all haze, a wise choice for such an intimate interior scene. Really really really great 5/5 instantly!

Excellent piece of work. The only quibbles I have is with the shadows from the pots at right, like gat. The direction just doesn't seem right. I don't mind the darkness of shadows, they give the scene a mystic touch. You've certainly earned that 5/5.

pots

Oh yes, something odd indeed is happening with the shadow direction of those pots. It's possible she may have drawn those shadows in, something that should not be necessary with a raytracing render. She has done so before with mixed results. But as said above, a so so minor quibble. Otherwise, very realistic. The suggestion about using a light ring for the fire will give very pleasing results, but it will also add to the render time, a big no no for you, you don't have that kind of patience. I love the colors of the wall paintings. Very good use of color. The mood of the scene is well captured.

Thanks.

I will try the light ring.

And the pots shadow I think is caused from the two torch lights on that wall. I'll try disabling the shadows on those two torch light sorces and see if the odd shadow dissapears. Thanks for pointing it out.

BTW Since I got Bryce 6.1 I no longer have the problems with freezing and such. This scene took 9 1/2 hours to render with no issues at all. I left it render over night too.

Have you tried rendering using the third setting and 16rays per pixle? For soft shadows this in a lot of cases will render faster then the regualr anti. Just don't forget to enable "soft shadows".

Um, not to sound like a noob, but how do I do that?

Watch I'll go into bryce and see it and think, "Duh!"

soft shadows

Simple. The only place you really NEED a soft shadow light source for this scene is the fire. You will only need ONE light source for the fire if you use soft shadows. When you go to edit the individual light with the letter E you will see that it can cast soft shadows from any value from 1-100. For my tastes 100 is both the best looking and the fastest rendering of the options. Do not add any color to the shadow ambience button above the soft shadow button. You did that once before so I think you already know about that.

A scene with only one soft shadow light source will render pretty quickly. 2 soft shadow lights render okay also, but markedly slower than just one. With 3 soft shadow sources, it becomes a long render indeed. If the scene took 9 1/2 hours to render with hard shadows, expect it to take at leat 3 times as long with soft shadows. About a full day of rendering, but this scene is worth it. We can't wait entire days for all scenes, just the trully amazing ones!

You will need to increase the render quality as gat suggested, as premium antialias has a soft shadows option that smoothes out the normally rough soft shadows. 16 rays per pixel will give you what you need and is much faster than higher ray counts. It renders in a completely different way because it antialiases as it goes, there is no separate antialias pass at the end of the render. Good luck.

Thanks. I'll try that.
And I never changed the render options before, so this is new to me.
