Will o' the wisp MKI
Description: Inspired by Horo's "ivy formed around clynders". I decied to form some vines around the "dead tree" model. Which I have. The model is still a bit low rez for my tastes... so I'm going to see if I can improve on that aspect. I then formed some ivy on a terrain and that is sunk into the ground to create the illusion of roots maybe... There are five trees in this scene, and a mirror... the will o' the wisp provided me with an excuse to use a blue light. Other light is provided by Horo's test card hdr. Excess light was prevented from entering though the sides of the mirror by using another box with semi transparent sides. Haze and Fog levels are set very low and boosted in postwork with the aid of blurring and very slight diffuse glow and finally minimal gamma compression. My aim was for a predominantly dark image.

A true magical forest. As if the land is under a spell, or a curse. Wise decision to make the img dark. It helps a lot for the atmosphere. At first I thought the roots to be bones. Yes, the darkness can play tricks sometimes. Here you've been very successful. The color choices for the sky seem warm and pieceful. I think in this image that is the "thin line" which separates a creepy horror forest appearance from a possibly fairy-tale one. I doubt that you wanted to create something scary though. Very good use of Ivys and very good final render, David!

Wow, this image is really cool, it looks like you used a photoshop filter to make it look painted like that, but you didn't. Great idea and great job! Really like the way light is set up, it does a lot of good to the image, but the ground lacks shadows through.......

A wonderful piece of art. No doubt the blue glowing gas is amazing and bewitching. The ivy.......AMAZING!!! The point is the ivy and I love it. It produces very natrual looking vines and leaf arrangements and is a reall help the bryce's vegetation limitations. I can even see using this ivy generator to produce more than ivy, it seems fit to produce bushes also. I really love this little program and am myself rendering a scene with them now. This program is like a free day at the spa, almost too good to be true.

Gat knows his filters he does, the blurring mentioned was indeed from photoshop, and it does a degree of "intelegent" filtering, by setting various threasholds and levels. I did spend a long time getting it to the desired level to try and persuade it to soften the finer details in the background. The gamma alteraions were made in PSP8. Thanks to the ivy generator it was a bit of a suprise success for me, since I was planning to try using the dead trees as a template (such as Horo had demonstrated with the clynders) but when I saw the effect of the two together, I could not resist the opportunity. Happy accidents are the best.
