Ivy Trees
Ivy Trees

Ivy Trees
Description: Just to show you, what I mean. Nothing elaborate. The trees were grown on a simple cylinder. The ones in the background are copies of the near ones and rotated. As can be seen, it is a bit windy there. Otherwise: no sun, a yellowish radial and opposite of it a fainter one with a cyan hue.

Yeh, that looks good. One big problem through, you can't have too many of those trees it will take up a lot of ram. I amguessing that image here took up about 200MB correct?

I bet alot of ram is needed, but that is the price one must pay for detailed models. I downloaded the ivy generator myself and I'm very anxious to put it to use. The fact that it is free means it's a great bargain, a must have until something better comes along.

For me these ivy have great potential especially when the transparency technique is applied. The leaves are a bit flat, but their arrangement on the vine seems random enough and that is what makes them look natural. The tree lab in bryce would not be able to produce these effects.

Actually, alot can be done on just a few polygons I'm finding. I downloaded it today for the first time. Though the individual leaves are flat 2d planes, they still look very good as they vary in size and direction very natrually. I am impressed and so grateful that this program is free. Amazing!

The ivy generator promises a lot of creative potential, these trees for example, would not look out of place in a lincolnshire hedge row, something that could not be said for almost any of the trees generated natively in bryce.

Tech Info

The scene as is here has a file size of 19 MB, the memory footprint is 69 MB. This will go up as soon as you modify the scene.

Hedges, that's what I thought, too. And depending on what "seed"-object you use to grow the ivy on and then rotate the "tree", you could give it a wind direction.

Render time was 28 minutes on my old 1.6 GHz Celeron laptop.
