Re-Jet Fight
Description: I changed the texture of the volume plane to basic shading, and changed ambient color from white to gray. Still not getting the right affect through. Oh and render time was 2:35

better

No doubt much better, more life-like. Don't sweat the render time, it's worth it. Basic shading was the perfect adjustment. You can play around with the ambient values and levels to get the desired effect. You can also play around with the base density. Truthfully, I'm really impressed by these clouds. Can you upload that mat?

The distant planet seems to serve more of a compositional purpose than anything else. Instead of a planet, because I don't believe it is one, perhaps a super tall futuristic building that is so high that it rises above the clouds. It would look more plausible and still fill in the corner area of the pic preserving your composition.

There is something odd going on in the clouds where I see streaks of some sort. What is causing that?

Those I think are from the shadows from the jet fighters. THe quality was set to low, so I think thats why it looks like that.

and yes I will upload the mat for this.

You've picked a very challenging effect here, I've frequently encounted these "shadow streaks" in volumentric materails before, it's difficult to know quite what to do, more light sources and volumetric effects is not a good combination as far as render time is concerned and also has more than once lead to a crash. My suggestion would be to turn off the shadow casting ability of the aircraft, let them recieve shadows and self shadow but prevent them from casting any, since there is no ground and I would suggest they should be far enough appart not to cast shadows on one another, then this is something I believe you might get away with.

Gat, these clouds are indeed very good! If this "planet" is a bit transparent and a little lower positioned I think the things will get more convincing there. Good thing to "break" the barrier of importing only 2~3 aircrafts. The more planes are there - the more "food" for the Eye. Just randomize those in front a bit. It looks like a dangerous manoeuvre...
