Bryce Encounters IBL remix

Bryce Encounters IBL remix
Description: I keep testing out IBL on different subjects, sometimes I am dissapointed to find that IBL does not offer anything better, sometimes I am pleasently suprised. In this case, I did not expect the IBL to work with this scene at all, addmittedly it did not work well with the volumetric fog (which I removed) and I did update the terrain materials and the water. It does however seem to be compatible with the transparent cloud material applied to the terrain in the sky and the plasma behind it. So here it is again, remixed for 2007 with IBL. Incidently I used the beachprobe.hdr which is one of my favourites since it has a good balance between main light and secondary light and a mixture of colours between yellow orange and blue grey.

Imposing

Very intimidating mountain especially with the rough clouds overhead. Reminds me somewhat of Death Mountain from Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Very beautiful work as always.

Funy I was just thinking about this image, I don't IBL does anything to this image, but at list it works.
Random question: How long does it take for an image to be uploaded, I submited mine a few days ago :(

Ibl does exactly what it should, there are more dynamics in the color ranges. The lack of atmospheric hazy or hazelike effects adds a clarity to the scene that probably would bot be, as there is alot going on in the atmosphere of this scene. IBL is about compromise sometimes. None the less, a great piece of work. I too have been reviewing some older scene applying new knowledge and techniques and it's a good feeling.

It's been quite a while since ...of the third kind. Clouds look almost the same, water and mountain are bathed in light. Hard to say which one I like more. I wouldn't have thought IBL would work on this scene at all, but it does.

I have been trying to recreate this image in Bryce...
Are there plugins you are using to achieve the vol cloud effect?
