Wasps Nest
Description: An abstract image utilising Horo's tunnels.hdr, no IBL here, just using the hdr as a backdrop and then modifiying it via mirrors and tranparent materials. The central sphere has a volumetric materail applied, something I would not attempt to render in combination with IBL since the two do not work well together, however, in this the only light is provided by the ambient channel.

Interesting abstract, excellently lit. I know the colour but I do not how you can use the HDRI as backdrop without using it to light the scene. Of course, you could tone-map it down to an LDRI and go from there, but I don't think you did this. Nevertheless, this is a very nice abstract with pleasing colour and light.

To use the hdr as a backdrop without lighting the scene set the Effect to 0. The Intensity allows the backdrop's brightness to be adjusted but with 0 Effect, there is no light coming in from the probe.

Thanks a bundle! This didn't occur to me, it's obvious. Shame on me.

A really nice mixture of cold colors. The volumetric ball in the center has this mild creamy look plus those black "interruptions" intrigues me and makes me wonder what's really going on there. A bit like your "On the infinite horizon" abstract. Did you try rendering this in panoramic mode? Excellent img, David!

As Barat would have said: "Very nice! Very nice!" (but with a lot more 'funy').

Richter, this image is cropped from the panorama. Something I should maybe have mentioned in the description - oops. Thanks Gat. And Horo, well, you know, you can't think of everything - never mind.

Wow. Awesome. I love the way you used the ambient channel in this piece. Nice ibl trick. Cool abstract.

Thank's Rashad, aye, well, to be fair, Horo has probably worked harder on this image that I have since he is the one who assembled the tunnel.hdr - which I understand is quite a laborious and tricky opperation. I just did the easy flashy showing offy bit of turning it into a picture.

Now this is a very unusual image. Not only does the lighting make for interesting effect but there are areas of faceted crystalline qualities I find most fascinating. Then there are the 3D qualities of different parts of the image that play funny games with my depth perception. Horo may have contributed to some elements of this image, for which I am indeed impressed, but what you have done here is pretty astounding. BRAVO!!!
