At first it took me a minute to digest this image. I think you are on the right track I will just make a couple of suggestions for the next time around.

You can and should change the resolution of the terrains in this scene. Notice in the edit menu for terrains and lattices to the left of the screen. It is at the bottom of that little rectangle, it looks like a grid. Click on the grid and you will see a control that allows you to change the resolution of the terrain object. The default is usually set at 256 or 512, but try it at 1024. You will find the angularity and courseness of the terrain will fade and all will be smooth and more realistic. Second, know well the difference between a lattice and a terrain. Ther terrain editor is one the strngest aspects of this program. In fact, pretty much no other program can match bryce in terrain generation in my experience.

Second, place a ground plane beneath the water surface, made of the same material as the mountains. I would consider a less dark soil color. Anyhow, the point is to make the water slightly transparent, at least to 50%. Water that lack transparency usually looks more like mercury than water. Transparency is essential for making water look like water. That's my two cents. Hope it's useful.
