Your brain must be wired for irony. Where did you come up with such an idea? Interesting combination of natural and unnatural, of melding man with machine. The brownish red texture looks like wood to me. It's like someone may have carved this out of wood and now someone has photographed that.
The lighting is good but could be better. The shadows are a bit too deep dark. I see no ambient channel expression which is the first step to realism. Ambient is flat and cheap and does not convince me very often. A better option is employing secondary lighting techniques. I would consider a seconadry light that is very very weak and dark grayish at exactly 180degrees from the primary light source. This will give the impression that the light from the primary source has bounced within the scene and is illuminating ever so slightly the dark side of those fingers and toes. It works a million times better than ambient.
Still this image is great and disturbing. Pinocchio would be proud.

Take words literally and that is what you end up with. Nice idea. Could indeed be improved upon with some tweaking of the light. As it is, it is more horrible imagination than a joke.

An interesting idea for an image. Interesting and vaguely horrible. I don't think I shall look at this image too long.
