long time

Long time no see. Glad to hear from you again. I think it is wonderful that you are paying tribute to your sister's artwork this way.

As far as this scene and the other one goes, I really like the architecture. I like the plant arrangements. The entire set-up is great.

Since the last time you were here we have been discussing ways to avoid using the ambient channel unless truly necessary. The ambient channel is 2d, flat, and cartoonish, not very photographic. Ambient materials are illuminated far too evenly in bryce, as in reality light always has a direction it is traveling and therefore will always have an intensity bias. The ambient channel in bryce is provides light that is far roo even and too "perfect" to look real. Light also should bounce around a scene from surface toi surface ut bryce can't do that. Hence the ambient channel. Please see Eden Paradise Lost by Tina Gazcon for a detailed description of what the heck I'm talking about with realistic lighting. What I have found is that using very weak secondary lights to lighten shadows works 1000times better that the ambient channel when realism is the goal.

In this scene I know your point was not "realism." Your choice to employ such high ambient levels in your materials has just the effect I think you intended and gives the scene a feeling of a painting, not of a photograph. I like the painting within a painting idea. I like the way you have used ambient here.

The Ambient Channel

Hi Rashad...
Thanks for the kind words and the advice on the ambient channel. You're correct that I wasn't shooting for "realism" with The Gallery, but the advice is well-taken. Can to tell me how to get to "Eden Paradise Lost" for the discussion of lighting?
And thanks again...

Mike, the scene I'm referring to is in the landscapes section of the site. Check it out and please let me know what you think. And hello to you too.

I like the both pictures. They seem so peaceful and refreshing. The work on the imgs could be taken as a co-work with your sister. Keep it up, Mike.
