Top Right I've removed the green transparent spheres changed nothing else

Bottom Right I've removed the red reflective spheres from the image above again changing nothing else

Bottom Left the final adaption in this series changing the HDR to St peters, had to drop the intensity to 30

Conclusions Transparency is very expensive in terms of render time compaired to say reflection. Also the HDR has a great impact on the level of shadow banding, note how dispite being at the same quality the St peters shows distinct shadows - which correspond to strong light sources in the hdr. Where as the moon image is very even and hides any banding in the shadows well at high quality.
