Teething Keys
Description: An image inspired by one of Tonkin's (Seven Keys) which has always impressed me for its use of materials and lighting. This is a comical conversion of that highly realistic image into extruded plastic. A mixture of IBL and three point lights (to make the pastic appear more like plastic by triggering speculative responses in the mat used). My old carpet makes an appearance again and the key models were formed in wings3D. Build time about four hours. Render time 6 minutes.

where's the baby?

Great. First of all the image is pleasing for the rainbow of colors. IBL really seems to love colors. The modeling of the keys is great. The combination of ibl and traditional lighting prove once again to be a very realistic way of rendering. Along with providing a specularity response in the material lab, the point lights seem to help correct shadows also, as I don't think I can sense any ambient running amuck. Your carpet material is always a welcome sight.

If I did not know this was a computer rendering it would take a while before I would begin to doubt it. It looks alot like a real photograph. Excellent. 5/5

Ah, beautiful, the toddler playing with the keys is just out of the cameras angle of view. Just how the toddler would see it. Here I can see the specularity. The reflection from the light probe used can be seen on the ring and the little ball attached to it.

5 stars for Realism! I like it very much. Excellent use of IBL and additional light sources. The carpet seems very natural, I can almost touch it, keys also. The image is as good as photograph, what can I say. Well deserved 5/5, David!
