Showpiece #13
Description: This is the Necro's amulet in a new light, IBL actually. I know David already used the St.Peter's .hdr so now I'm increasing the selection of .hdr-s shown, rendering this image with Galileo's Tomb. Some textures were slightly changed from the original Amulet, though the Eye still "stands". The pedestal below you can find at 3dcafe.com The frame and a bit of postwork done in p-shop.

Looks fantastic. Really real. How long did it take and how difficult was it to set up? Oh 5/5 no question.

I like the detail. The orb reminds me of the one in the movie Phantasm. This scene looks to me like a medevil torture room. It's kind of creepy but I like it!

perfect

There's nothing to say except thank you for such a lovely image. This is a perfect example of a sucessful combination of effects. Secondary lights, IBL, depth of field, all perfectly implemented. Exceptional. 5/5

Thanks for the kind remarks. You know I've modeled the amulet some time ago and the pedestal I got from "outside". So the time taken for composing and arrangement of the scene was about 10-15mins. What really needed attention was the light ballance. Rashad guessed correct - there are 2 secondary light sources, 1 positioned in front of the pedestal and 1 on its shaded side with different (very low) intensity and casting no shadows. IBL is both hard and easy to work with. The image was rendered with the background option ON, this was the only way to get the .hdr file visible within the reflection. The quality and the intensity of IBL were set to 50, while the influence of the .hdr was 36. Finally applied soft shadows and the DOF. The total render time was 25h 23mins at this resolution, with 100% usage of both cores of my cpu. Thanks again for watchin'!

P.S. Horo, the forum Help->performance section is updated with the new Bosta.br5 results using B6.
