Just barely finished this thing in time to submit it before the Halloween Contest ends.
Inspired by Dali54's play on dark themes presented in "light" ways. But unlike Dali I have no knack for symbols so I tend to have to draw things out literally. Therefore forgive the bloodiness, as this scene loves more and more blood. I had to stop myself because I decided it might be distasteful to smather and splatter the scene with blood when a hint is all we really need. I find humor in the "clean" way she does these dirty things.

Very detailed and very elaborate scene. All the textures used, respond perfectly to the Global Illumination you have applied. The refraction of the glass material looks as good as in a real shot. The Pieces of Mind are what I like the most, as their mat's specularity is triggering this very feel of organics and flesh. The color/texture and the slight transparency of the curtains fit nicely to the wall and the whole environment. With the trees outside this image achieves more depth, which is, along with a proper scaling of obj-s, a needed "key" for the realism. The pose of Gnartha is very expressive - she seem to really know what she's doing :) Rashad, your image is very good. The only thing I would change (or not - artist's choice) are to slightly smooth the shadows' edges. The light sources are bright enough to give the sharp banding, but the material on the wall could also affect the shadows soften them a bit. Not a quibble at all though, I'm voting top marks!

Thanks Richter. I struggled alot with this scene as to how to create that television feel. There are actually 4 lights in the scene. A soft shadows version would have been great but I did not have enough time to render it with the deadline for the contest end approaching so quickly. For the wine glasses, I had to plop render just that shelf with a ray depth of twelve in order to avoid the black "I give up" pixels that occur at lower ray depths. It's hard to see here but the glasses are actually 3 or 4 glasses deep, so there were alot of ray hits going on there.
The organic materials used for the brains and the bodies being cooked in the oven
is a tweak of the eye-white material that comes with the eyeball model included in the bryce4 content libraries. It has a great veinyness to it ans looks disgustingly fleshy.
My cousin also mentioned the curtain transparency and he thought it was a really cool effect. It makes me smile that you mentioned it too. It is a fabric made by tweaking the leaf transparency trick. I have said before that the trick I use for foliage transparency works exceedingly well for many other transparency objects in nature, such as curtains, ice cubes, pretty much everything that is transparent yet made of solid materials.
