environmental choices

I like this idea. Just a plain pumpkin would be nice but bringing hints of Jason into it make it fun. I like the mouth, or should I say breathing holes.

That pumpkin is really interesting the more I look at it. The pumpkin model itself is somewhat odd in that it's ridges seem to stick out instead of depressing. This could also be a trick of lighting so I could very well be wrong. Or, maybe....yes, it looks like a collapseable toy pumpkin made out of a slightly transparent orange fabric. The pumpkin skin has an ambient expression "glow" that confused me at first. You didn't abuse ambient expression anywhere else in the scene so why here I thought? Now I think I get it. It's supposed to look like the light shines "through the pumpkin skin giving it a real reason to "glow" of ambient. Wise use of ambient expression. If a fabric pumpkin was your goal, you achieved it brilliantly. Very nice choice!

I know you want to keep this simple, but I think you could use the environment a bit more to help state your case and set your mood. Maybe barren trees instead of leafy ones although the fall colors are great. More trees in general will be helpful. Maybe some combination of leafy and barren?Bring in some black colored haze to blend the horizon line where land meets sky so the separation is not so obvious. Add more grass models in the foreground and use a dirt ground plane as the current one looks like green turf or fabric. The pumpkin wants a real light source inside, either fire from a candle of a light bulb. Right now the light inside the pumpkin has no visible origin and the holes in the face are big enough so that the light source should be visible inside.

Nice pumpkin. I agree with Radash to work a bit on the environment and probably set a visible fire inside the pumpkin.

Weight

The concept is very good. What I see is the pumpkin has no feeling of weight, I don't know if this is intentional because of the mask influences?

If the walls of the pumpkin were thicker or a few un-carved pumpkins scattered about the scene might give it a more natural feel.

Nice entry!

Great Trees!

Did you do those in Bryce or in another program? They look so natural! I love them! ;-)
