Siberia 1936
Description: It was a good year, with a tough winter. Though in Siberia is always like that :). I tried to make the rendering (Terragen) to appear as old as one could possibly be after 70 years, but not too old. The album where the "photo" was held in, preserved it more or less. Postwork in photoshop. Thanks for viewing!

very interesting

You have a tendancy of doing everything right, and this piece is no exception. You made some very wise choices. First, it was a good decision to render the scene in Terragen. Terragen does indeed produce very lifelike clouds. Why can't Bryce do that? Anyhow, the lghting angle is very good. Terrains are convincing. So is the snow. But the trully brilliant choice here is the Black & White old style, and the handwritten authoring clause with the date at the bottom right. I tend to forget to author my images before I post them here, but in your case here, the authoring is wisely a part of the picture. The only color in the piece is on the bottom left from the moisture and sunlight inside the photo album. It looks like it was a fast and easy scene to produce, yet it is still very good. Simple but great.

Thanks! You're right, Rashad, it was easy enough to create it in Terragen. Actually the photoshop processing took longer then the TG render :) Appreciated the comment!

As rashad says, you are having that tencency of doing everything right. To make this a monochrome picture actually enhances it. Terragen makes nice mountains and beautiful skies, getting the materials on the terrains is more difficult. Now: what about duplicating this using Bryce. How does that sound?

the sky is the issue

I'm not sure how Richter will respond, but for me, this piece can indeed be reproduced in bryce. Bryce provides equally believeable mountain terrains and all of that, but the lighting and the sky will be more challenging. Bryce clouds are simply not at the level of Terragen clouds. No, I should say, that it is easier to create beautiful cloud results out of Terragen, but to produce a similar effect in bryce will take lots and lots of work in the sky lab. Difficult, but not impossible. If Richter does figure out how to make those kinds of clouds in bryce without resorting to photos, I will be astonished.

Perhaps I'll give it a try. And I don't think it'll be as easy as it sounds :)

As well as all the above praise, I will add my own voice in saying that this piece is also excelletly composed and balanced. 5/5 without a doubt. Pity it is not bryce...
