Description: A model created with TopMod, a very interesting program for making such shapes. Link is [http://www-viz.tamu.edu/faculty/ergun/research/topology/]. Spent a good bit of time on the lighting.

Lighting and material choices look spot on. Have a very realistic 3D presence. Convinceing dispite the "floating" components.

Perfect modeling, perfect lighting, perfect texturing. The only texture I might reconsider slightly is the bumpiness of the ground plane. There might be slightly too much bumpiness. The softened shadows are always a hit and turn up the realism a great deal. Where did you get that copper-like metaic texture?

Excellent model, pity the link given is dead. Very good material choices. I like the bumpiness of the floor because it nicely contrasts with the smooth surfaces on the object. The lighting is perfect. Floating components never escape David's sharp eye, but once pointed out, I can see it as well. Nevertheless, 5/5.

I think the bits in the middle aren't floating- looking at the model, they loop around and rejoin the rest of the ribbons. Is that what you mean? The copper material is one of mine, and it isn't copper at all. The lighting is orange, so it turns orange. The material is about 50% reflective, has some specularity, a Voronoi bump and not much else.

Horo, the link is fixed. You'll still have to remove the end bracket and period the linking automatically puts in.

I'll upload the model if anyone wants it (even just to see if it is floating).

TopMod & copper

Very good image, I've some doubts about this blurry reflection on the floor - it looks just like shadow, so maybe soft shadow without reflection would be enough? Copper material is very convincing.
Model: I don't see any floating components - I'm not sure about the glass ball in the middle, but the copper thing is only one element bended in many crazy Moebius-like loops. Proper link should be http://www-viz.tamu.edu/faculty/ergun/research/topology/
I downloaded and played with it, and I can say that it's a gem - different approach to modelling gives possibility to make non-standart models.
Big thanks to LitoNico!

I see the moebius loops now, so not so much "floating", I should say "sprung". Not that that matters anyway... it is how it looks that counts and it looks good! I rather like the bumpy floor for the contrast between it and the metal materail used on the model.

Fine model and excellent choice for that "copper" texture. I've just d-loaded the program and will definitely have some time exploring the strange forms and all. Your ground plane tex is a bit harsh for my taste. I don't know if you applied Blurry reflections or just used the proper texture (frosted mirror?). Once I had the same bumpy result, but I fixed it with higher values for the rays/pixel (64 and above) in AA Fine quality. That qualm aside, this img is really an interesting piece, plus the link for d-load of the software... yup, this equals 5/5.

Thansk for the link. Floating: I'm not sure, from the shadows it might be that the loop at right front not completely touches the floor. Hard to be absolutely sure, I might easily be wrong.
