V-12 SD Breakdown
Description: The next blow. An asteroid 1/10 of the moon size was destroyed. Perhaps you'll like this rendering more. Additional sphere with home-made volumetric explosion texture added, an ambient light in the center. The postwork consist of the lightning strokes (EMP wave) you see and a bit of sharpening in photoshop.

Less pleasing as a picture but definitely more explosion like. Blindingly bright. The bits and pieces flying around make me shield my head. Good job done here.

Yup, I like it alot better. There is depth, movement, and scale. The biggest difference is the increase in the level of interaction amoung the differing elements within your scene, giving the effect of passing time. This scene has more elements in general than the last one as there is both a small moon and an explosion involved. The exolosion and the moon have a clear effect upon one another. Gas with rock, heat with both of those, electricity, smoke, the works. Lighting choices are truly excellent. Color choices seem appropriate, as there is a strong sense of contrast. Over-all I'd say the image is very convincing because it makes alot of internal sense. Perhaps the centermost yellow fireball could be tuned to express more of the white color to raise it's temperature, as right now it seems "cooler" than the gas around it. My only quibble. Definetly a solid 5/5.

Thanks a lot, guys! Then I consider this to be a successfull demolition. Rashad, as for the yellow fireball -- the light inside has 50 for the intensity. I tried to raise the number higher, but even 55 makes very unpleasant edges all over the volumetric explosion texture.

I understand what you mean about strengthening the light source. I never intended for you to make an overall change, as 55 would indeed cause. I suggest instead that in the texture editor the proportion of white to yellow could be adjusted so that there is more white. This is assuming that there is a yellow and white cloud texture there. But if the cloud texture is yellow only and the visible white is caused by the intense light underneath, then perhaps adding some white areas to the cloud texture would do the trick.

More illustrative than the lats example from which it appears to have evolved. It works certainly but, from an asthetic perspective, I prefer the more abstract piece.
