Sam & Sal
Description: "I've collected some eleedees from the walls for you, Sal."

"Oh Sam, you're such a dear."

The toon robots are from DAZ3D, the LEDs and the jar were made in Wings3D. That's robot romance for you.

i can feel the love

Terrific idea. Nice creation of a video game type of a world. Expressive eyes are a huge plus and the single most important thing about the image. I believe they care about one another. Nice use of ambient to show the illuminated rooms. Great balance of haze to lighten those deep shadows and provide atmospheric depth. Nice glow from the city below. I have a bit of an issue with the shadows, as the robots don't seem to be casting any. That lack of interaction makes the robots seem slightly separate from their environment, slightly pasted. The shadows would help to truly "place" the robots into the world. Great job as always.

The position and the setup of the robots looks good to me. I agree with Rashad about the eyes - deffinately expressive. Although the little time of magic Sam & Sal have is slightly ruined because they don't seem to look at each other(are the eyes editable?). That way the robots look more as toys then alive. Each one of the background textures is good for itself. Sadly the combination isn't that fine, at least to me. Too bryce-ish, no problem, too simple - maybe. I believe the backside could look so much better if you work on it a little while.

Rashad is correct about the shadows. They are there, but below the grid. I seem to have made a mistake with the grid. I've noticed only after the render, which took 22 hours. Yes Richter, something went amiss with the background. The idea was to create light walls - not windows of blocks. I assembled the robots in DAZ|Studio which works very slow on my machine and did some minor adjustments in Bryce. Indeed, the eyes are adjustable in D|S. Pity, i'm rather busy and am happy I could post something at least. Not the ultimate, I agree, just a ?nice try? perhaps. Thanks for the comments, they're appreciated.

22 what????

Did you say a 22 hour render? Wow man. I'm surprised. It doesn't look like it should have taken that long. I don't mean that in a bad way at all. There are lot of shadows on the buildings and all. There are not alot of details to read. There must be alot of lights that we cannot see. Or maybe there are other programs running while you render? I can tell that the lighting is cool and colored slightly by the reflections on the robot bodies. Do you mind if I ask how many lights you used?

Lights

There are two spots giving the main light to the robots. These are those that do not shed enough shadow. The LEDs are lights as well, 16 radial lights with square fall off within partially reflecting and mostly transparent round objects - all together in another transparent and reflecting object. These LEDs are responsible for the long render. And the legs of the LEDs are golden with high reflection on them. A lot of details that got lost.
