subtle, simple, powerful

This image is so well done it's sickening. This image is very powerful to me. The dynamics of light and dark are very cleverly displayed and executed. The models themselves are not what impress me here, although they seem very good for this lighting. The way you have them coming in and out of the shadows is very scary and intimidating and I would not want to fight with those almost invisible enemies. Also, the truly brilliant choice here is the laser that just barely misses the viewer. First, it's good looking texture for a laser beam. Nice color and it feels like "light". Second, is the laser angle in relation to the viewer. I feel very included in this piece by that laser beam and that is where it's power lies. it's difficult to receive top marks for an outer space pic, but I think you've earned it here clearly. 5/5

The way you reviewed this piece gave me goosebumps. You sound like a pofessional art critic and that gives your kudos for this image even greater value to me. Thank you so much!

When I decided to make one of the beams pass very close to the viewer I thought it would make a powerful impression and add a real sense of depth. I used the 'Light' mode on the laser materials and the 'beam within a beam' effect is rather nice. ;-)

The design of these... 'objects' is not mine. They are the original Lightwave designs used in the Babylon 5 series. The material I used is my recreation of the way they actually looked. I even took the time to work out the animated effect that was used on them but to create a clip small enough to post here would be extremely difficult. I'm working on one I can post to a personal web site and I'll submit a link to it here.

I'm also working on some original designs in Carrara that I'll be using in future images. Time to work on my creations and evolve my style is not as plentiful as I'd like right now but that won't stop me from creating something to post once in a while.

Thanks again for that powerful review and high marks. You just made my day! B^)

Carrara, interesting

You are very welcome for the review my friend! You earned that review! Images don't have to be complex to get the job done. What's great here is the "craft" you displayed in your choices within the scene. Nothing about the scene is overdone or underdone. Composition is very efficient. I wouldn't change anything. Your point is clearly made. You set out with a specific goal and you pulled it off exactly, like a professional. I merely spoke the truth. Others may agree with me once they see it.

Carrara is owned by Daz now, correct? It looks like it could be a great software. If they make it so that Bryce and Carrara can communicate, it may give Bryce a bit more of an edge for those PROS out there who want to step up their Bryce files to a more powerful app. A relationship like Vue has with Maya with importing and exporting scenes in a pipeline environment would be great. I'm curious as Carrara was once a Bryce competitor, if they can ever be made to work together efficiently or if Daz even plans to connect them. Please post some Carrara works as I'm intrigued by it's potential powers.

Carrara

I'm working on another image using a model I created with Carrara. I like the way this one came out. It has a definite organic look that fits right in with the Shadow theme.

Carrara started out as a replacement for Metacreations Ray Dream Studio, another good modeling tool even though it's outdated. Eovia had it for a while and created Hexagon for advanced object modeling. Now Daz3d has it, which is cool because both Bryce and Carrara are now at home together again. They can be used together through one of the common export/import file formats such as .3ds. I don't know if they will try to make Carrara more Bryce friendly as Carrara can produce landscapes and is much more powerful.

I'd rather see Daz improve Bryce with powerful free-form modelers (vertex, spline, poly line, etc.), more accurate light physics like caustics and spectral refraction (good for easily creating real world sunrise/sunset effects and spectrums), motion blur..........LOL I'm probably asking WAY too much. :-)

more Carrara

Bryce will probably never be a good modeler, unless they change the UI and add side buttons like daz studio-ish programs designed for advanced polygon manipulation only. I too would LOVE to see Daz3d create a more professional version of Bryce. In fact I think the future of Bryce DEMANDS that they do. Other softwares offer pro and standard versions. But wouldn't a Bryce Pro then be competing with Carrara and the powers Carrara already has? How can Daz market Carrara if an updated and revamped Bryce Pro has the same or better powers? Plus, more features means more cost for us. I would gladly pay the difference.
For now, the main thing I would like to see on this site is a landscape render or two from Carrara. I want to see Carrara trees to compare them to Bryce trees, as I know Daz has updated the tree lab as such in Carrara. I want to see Carrara skies and compare them to Bryce skies. The skies look very similar to me. It is more powerful I know, but what exactly is meant by that? Do you have some Carrara renders you can post here for us to see? Pretty pretty please?

Nice... in the series wasn't it all down to graphical prowess of the Commadore Amiga? It's a while ago, and my memory is fuzzy at the best of times... but I seem to recall something along those lines? Good composition, more light from the moon might help define the craft on the right, perhaps, but it is a minor point.

Amiga? I really don't think they were powerful enough to manage the exquisitely animated skin of these craft. The resolution alone looks to be far beyond the abilities of my old Amiga 600 - a later and infamously non upgradeable model - and I absolutely can?t see it rendering the transparency or illumination effects used in the series in any less than a month per frame. LOL I'm really not positive about this. All I know is I have an entire collection of B5 spacecraft object files, all in Lightwave format, and as far as I can tell this particular one is identical to the design used in the series. Like I said earlier I'm playing around with Cararra 5 Pro to make some original 'Shadowesque' designs. Unfortunately my free time is quite limited these days. :-(

BTW, To Rashad, I will post some Cararra renderings as soon as I can manage it.
