Props
Description: The torus knot is a bryce object. The props were made in wings3D. The scene was lit with a mixture of coloured light rings and bryce skylight. The aim was to create a feeling of weight coupled with one of "uneasy" balance.

props for you.

In the U.S. we have a term "giving props." The image is great, so "props" to you David. I have always liked this style of simple geometry rendered with light rings and domes for the soft shadows. The lack of complexity of modeling and materials makes these lighting arrangements possible without killer render times. The props themselves look very realistic. Rubber looks like rubber, and metal looks like metal. I'm not sure if I believe that the front two of those props could support the weight of the torus at the angle you have used them. It looks to me like the torus will eventually fall. But I could be wrong.

Clever idea. Good setup, and well lit. And feels heavy too :) The rubber texture is very successful, also the way the lower part sinks into the ground adds more to the feeling that the prop is under tension. Hey, is that the polished iron tex on the prop. Once again, good job.

Thank you. Aye that is more polished iron Richter. And I am also pleased to hear from rashadcarter1 - the feeling that the torus will eventually fall, was the "uneasy" balance I was aiming for. The torus in the background could be considered in two ways here, another torus - that would be litteral - or the same torus as the foreground one viewed at a later time. What ever you are spot on in your observations about the use of basic materials and complex lighting. So far as I can tell the complexity of the models does not have a big impact on the render times, but complex materials and complex lighting is a recipe for a long winded render.

Very nice. Indeed, I understood the torusknot in the background fell already before I read any comments. You hit what you aimed for. Though simple, the scene looks complete, probably thanks to the two unused props in the foreground. Excellent choice of colour and light.

That torus looks very unstable, which is what you were aiming for. The lighting and background (or lack of one) are perfect for this scene. Like rashadcarter said, the simple materials are very effective in this kind of scene. Faultless. 5/5.
