Misty Mountain Replica
Description: Ok here's my try at replicating a scene. Mine is a bit wider than the pic I found, but I think it looks close. This is the only one I'm going to do so enjoy.

impressive

I like it alot. You have captured the feel of the original. The sky is close and the trees are appropriate, and the fog is exact! I am curious about the material of the terrains. Is the sun positioned in front of the scene like in the original? If so, then where are the deep black shadows of the mountains like in the original? The real life pic is not afraid to let things in the shadows be black if there is no light reaching them. This is one of those times when ambient expression is taking away from the realism and depth of the scene, though it is a matter of taste. P.s., to be a person who doesn't like the sky lab or tree lab, you are coming a very long way very quickly. Very nicely done.

I can't seem to close my mouth...! Alex, this one is simply great! And I mean it. The contours are same, the atmosphere is almost recreated, trees are there. If you wish to work it further - no problem. But what I see now, I'm rating 5/5!

Indeed, you hit the feel head on. The terrain is a bit different, but it's hard to get it right without a DEM from the place. The sun is at the wrong place and I think this is responsible for the brightness of the landscape. However, the mist is excellent. On the whole, I agree with richter and this picture earned full marks for catchging the ambiance so accurately.

Thanks. I tried to get the sun in the same location.
When I tried to get the same shaddows it made the entire scene too dark. This was fun to do, but also hard. I'm glad everyone likes it.

There is always the option of using two suns. Disable the sunlight from the sky sun and put it where you want it to "visably" appear and then add in an additional "sun" distant point light source, to give you the light effect you are looking for. Sky and fog are handled very nicely.

So real!

I love what you've done here. It is so life-like. Maybe you can send some pointers my way. I value your opinion. You ceitiqued my first piece I sent in. I like to do landscapes. When I paint I usually paint flowers. This is a nice change for me. It takes me about the same amount of time, but I like the results I get from this program. Keep up the beautiful work.

Thanks tina. Well my only suggestions are to try lots of things. Don't stick to any one subject. Play around with textures to see what looks best. I have searched high and low for as many textures as I could find, and well I'm still looking. Sometimes when I'm thinking of a certain scene I try out several ideas first to see what works best, or looks right as far as textures and lighting go. I've come a long way, and I know you will too. Also I spend a lot of time on my scenes. I try not to rush anything. So take your time and most of importantly have fun.
