Description: Pre-production jasc psp7.
Rendered in Bryce5
Post production (saturation enhance and sharpen filter) psp7.

Our own Sun has an Oort cloud of asteroids that extends about one light year across. Our sun is one of the rare stars that is solitary and not part of a binary system. In this scene a star is surrounded by a gigantic nebula. It is part of a binary system but it's partner is not visible. The stars have carved an area of orbit and do not actually touch the nebula. The hole cut out by the stars is over 5 light years wide, as the two stars are just 1 light year apart from one another. If there are any planets in this system they are likely to be fried in radiation from the ionized gasses of the nebula and the heat of these two powerful stars in close proximity.

Interesting work. What do you exactly mean with pre-production? It looks as if the main star were in a transparent, refracting sphere.

pre-production

I fell in love with computer graphics because of a love for shows like star trek. Cloud effects are one of those things that separate the men from the boys. Volumetric cloud effects take a long time to render. I have found ways to get the maximum out of my render, often meaning that a certain amount of pre-production is necessary to prepare materials. I have rendered lots of clouds in the past, so now I can layer them in psp7, and re-import them back into bryce as simple images placed on spheres or other shapes that give me all the volume I need with almost no render time. The stars are 3d objects, but not really a sphere. I have outlined their creation method is comments for "forbidden rainbow"

Thanks for the clarification concerining pre-production. If you have renders of - say clouds (or whatever) - you could put them onto 2D-Faces in your scene and render everything together without resorting to put them together in a graphics application. I don't say that's wrong - or I'm doing wrong myself at times. I'm suggesting another means to work with pre-produced elements.

open to suggestions

Horo, your way of working yields terrific results. Your work is always excellent. You have found many solutions for yourself and I appreciate you sharing them with me.
This scene is based upon images of the Rosette Nebula. I like the idea of 2d faces, but I feel with that I lose that sense of 3d space. Hinting at the SCALE of outer space is key. I want the image to have depth. Applying the images to a sphere or terrain allows me to animate the scene and perform a fly-around render of the nebula if needed. The final shape is important. I always have animation in mind. Not that I would ever animate it, but I like knowing that the elements are 3d enough to animate if anyone ever asked me to. How do you take a 2d picture of an object and make it into a truly 3d object than can be rendered from all sides?
Sadly, this file and forbidden rainbow were both produced years ago. My last roomate (evil woman by the way), to show me how much she hated me, she deleted into the recycle bin the entire my images folder of my computer containing over 10Gb of image files. Then she emptied the recycle bin! Can you imagine something so evil? The computer was left on because I was rendering something. She destroyed years of work, all because I told her she needed to pay rent or move out. I recovered a few gigs of info with recovery software, but these particular files were so large that they have been permanatly lost. I will try to recreate them. Thank you for your feedback.

wha...

10 Gb gone?? That's very bad, Rashad! Though I'm happy for you about not giving things up. That's the spirit.

Your render definatelly has a scale. And variety. Every pixel inside feels different, interesting and so full of energy. I particularly like seeing those colors burn in the specific places you created around the stars and the bottom of the pic. Did you ever thought putting a spacecraft too? Anyway - excellent!
