Imperfect
Description: This is my latest complex bump-texturing experiment. It is all Bryce. The ground plane consist of a multi-channelled procedural texture (Pitted Granite) with slightly reflection and diffusion adjustments. I tried to get it as close as possible to the real polished granite appearance. The fun part was the making of the most complex texture in this scene - the one on the spheres. Any suggestions? :)

DOF looks very good here, very fitting. The granite looks good, it doesn't appear very polished, though. Mayhap the DOF ruins that a bit. The material on the spheres, however, are a smash! Absolutely marvellous. The scaly appearance and the gem-like green: amazing! I wonder how this would look under other lighting but I'm sure you've already tried several possibilities and settled for this one.

Excellet use of DOF - maybe a little strong, but the textures used are wonderful - a simple idea done very well. For suggestion, try making the materials in the scene matt and lighting the sceene with a light dome (but don't use DOF with this effect because it will never render this side of doomsday) - then get rid of the light dome and render the sceene distance masked - invert and difference it to itself, gamma compress it so that it runs from white to black to white again then use this to filter the first image so that the DOF effect can be controlled by bluring. It's a lot easer than it sounds - honestly, and takes only a fraction of the time of Priemum effect render and CAN be used with light domes, unlike DOF. So a minor suggestions there for you to while away your evening.

Thank you very much! Well, I guess it is a success so far, even simple though.
Yes Horo, I did made some test renders with different lights and what you see here is my best result. So I decided - Upload :) I'm happy you liked it!
David, maybe the DOF looks strong, but without it the contrast between detail and blur this scene achieved will be amost lost in the bryce infinity. Perhaps you noticed I do like to render using DOF. And I'm using it with max values (256rays/pixel). About your suggestions :) I'll try to do my best and then show the results.
