Outpost
Description: The building is from DAZ3D, the picture of the Milkyway from http://www.hwy.com.au/~sjquirk/images/milkyway.jpg and the satellite dish is my own. The fiddly thing was to set the camera right since it uses a FOV of 180?. Placing the lights was fun, the Milkyway picture is on a 2D-face along with an alpha. This is lit by a parallel spot. No Bryce sun, the stars are, though. The nice thing about such scenes is that they render within minutes.

Reminds me very much of QuakeII with the coloured lighting. The camera seems a little high for the scene. The stars are lovely. The lights on the models could do with a little more definition I believe that such situations have very harsh lighting and that all seems quite soft and bereft of cast shadows on the open areas of floor. A rethink on the lighting could bring this scene to life, and perhaps the suggestion of a figure lurking in the doorway...

Quake II alright

Who's got the Railgun :))! I don't see a figure lurking behind the door but I sure need my gun.
I have only one question - is it the scene so detail or are your textures so great? Either way 5/5!
Yeah, I miss a few shadows beneath the containers and so what. Everybody knows that back in the 90's the shades wasn't as good in gameplay as today's 3D Action Shooters.

Thanks! DAZ3D models are quite detailed and the models ?wear? UV maps which are, also, very often quite detailed. The model is called ?Olympus Mons? and I intended to do a Mars thing, but settled to a night scene somewhere out in space. It's simply an outpost, a boring place for those bad payed staff that man it for a year in a row. The most exiting thing is the near galaxy, but every member of the staff has seen it long and often enough to be bored by this as well.
Were it an adventerous place, shadows would have to be hard and pronounced, with creepy figures lingering in the dark, I fully concur with your views there. However, since it's a boring place, I wanted everything to just fade off into the dark. No thrilling game, just uneventful reality.
