Lighthouse
Description: Bryce5.5 no postwork. Used the Lighthouse model from Content Kit no. 1 aquired from [link] an additional sunlight as per the tut here [link] and beanzvisions HGL dome with very subtle soft redish orange lighting to add a bit of ambient light. Three terrains went into the headland and a single plain use for the water - all of which had matterials applied that were specifically adapted to take advantage of the rather extreme lighting contidions. Oh and the orangeish clouds are a volumetric plasma material.

All i can say iw WOOOW!!! As we all were waiting for, just another amazing picture by David.
I love the lighthouse model, and the landscape and the sky!! The whole setting is perfect!
How do you do it? thats my question! Have tried some lighthouse pictures myself, but never got them so real. Good work!

How does he do it...

I'm not sure how David achieves this, but I think there are 2 secrets:
1. The sky(the secret used in this picture I guess). He always makes it NOT to look as Bryce's default and sometimes(if not always) creates it himself.
2. The extrodinary materials he made himself or that were made by other professional artists. I tryed replicating some of his work and I realized I won't be able to do it without creating simmilar materials. The only problem is I don't know anything within the Material lab.

Another photorealistic masterpiece!

Once again you've blown me away with the unbelieveable realism you achieve. Bravo, David! This definitely rates a BIG 5!

Sorry, I'm less convinced. Sky, lighting, landscape, the sea, the shore, the lighthouse: everything is excellent. I'm less sure about the composition. Nothing against the emptyness, however, something is missing. I don't know whether a windswept solemn tree or a bit of heather like shrubbery would help. Don't get me wrong, this is an excellent work, but it does not satisfy me. You know, like having had a nice lunch but you leave the table still hungry, even though you had enough. That is about how I feel about this one.

What's missing....

After a closer examination of the picture I think that the thing missing would be a person(a woman perhaps?) in front of the lighthouse(the far left of the picture to be exact), wathing the sea. It would make the picture really poetic. I'm not talking about making that person detailed. Just the conture would be enough.

And/Or maybe a boat near the beach?

I find the reflection to be the most impressive piece of the image. I really do love this image, however, one thing that i find a problem with is the scale on the mountain. I have a hard time matching it with that lighthouse... maybe its just me however...Anywho, great work- keep em comin'

Thanks

I'm suprised that more of you didn't pick up on the scale issues, the terrains were designed around a lighthouse of about a quater this size perched on the headland - but having tried that I decided it lacked impact and just scaled it up to this rather oversized version... I also agree with the comments about adding some other focus to the image, but that I felt would have made the scale issue more obvious by far. The sky is a composite of modified sky and a volumetric cloud sphere.

I've thought about this one many times. I have no qualms about the scale. A focus could be given by just making part of the landscape with a sheer cliff.
