RingWorld Concept
Description: This is just a concept image of Larry Niven's RingWorld. It will require a lot more work before it's complete and will probably yield several finished images at differentangles and distances. This is only the outer shell and needs further detailing.

All comments welcome.

The sky :)

I love the sky. It's very...hm...agressive perhaps?

Nevermind. I like the pic, but the ring looks more like a huge cage, no tlike a ring WORLD which is kind of disappointing :(

Maybe if you make a simple cylinder and another one inside it to cut the outer one(In short: make a simple angular ring) and place a grass or something on the inside...

Unfortunatly I've never had the chance to play Halo 1 or 2. Maybe in the future. ;-)

The sky :)

Thats a nebula cloud. I thought a plain stary black sky was a tad boring so I added the nebula.

Like I said, this is just a concept image and needs a LOT more detailing and modification. It's just the outer shell. I need to place the actual RingWorld within it. I figure it would have to revolve within this shell to produce centrifugal gravity. I also need to work out a mechanical method of simulating night and day. Seasons will have to be a function of the life support systems.

Of course this is just a fantasy. To actually construct such a massive artificial world around a star would be a technological nightmare at our present level of technology. ;-)

Nebular looks very good, you might want to experiment with a wider angle on the camera to make the background stars smaller and twinklier... the ringworld itself - although it has been a while since I read the books... quite a while, I thought it was flat? With a plain outer surface and a terraformed inner with raised sides to stop the atmposphere spinning out - oh and somewhere the "fist of god" huge moutain thing... it's all a but vague in my memory now - wasn't there shadow squares too floating near the inner sun? Oh, yeah, you've not finished yet, I know... I was just pondering to myself that's all - pay no heed.

I'm afraid it will take me a while before I can buy any new games and have the time to play them. I'm also afraid that my addictive personality will kick in again and I won't be getting any sleep. LOL Ah! the old Unreal Tournament days come to mind with many a night drinking my special Super Mocha Wake Up Calls (instant coffe and Nestlie's Quik, SUPER STRONG) and playing online until I had to go to work. It's a miracle I didn't suffer a complete physical breakdown. Those were the good ol' days. LOL

To David,

I have to read the books again but about the "Fist of God", having a large mass at one point on the ring would throw it out of balance. I would think that mountains would have to be evenly distibuted around the ring to maintain it's orbital stability.

LOL Don't mind me. They used to call me Mr. Spock in High School. ;-)
