Maccina
Description: Indeed, Ylem is a bit a far out sort of experiment. In fact, it has as a base this machine which is more conventional. The main figure is from Bryce 5.5 object library ?Sweeping Spiral?, the holes in it just appropriate material, the rest is pretty obvious. Depth Of Field applied to the final render. No post production whatsoever.

I love the tecture of the central cone of the object and how the light with fog radiates from it.

Very nice work.

material

Nibor, I was wandering if the material you used to surround the spheres is a volumetric one, and is it in the texture library of Bryce5.5 as well:) I'm still working with Br.5 (the reason I ask). Interesting composition by the way.

P.S. I maybe am mistaken, but why don't you increase the rays/pixel in the DOF option line

This is an interesting composition. One odd thing I notice is the toruses at the bottom look flat except for the leading edges with the specular shine, where they become 3 dimensional. An odd effect indeed.

Very nice work!

The balls consist of an inner sphere with a self made metalic material. They have an outer sphere with - as you rightly say - a volumetric material, also self made. The only Bryce 5.5 only object is the spiral. The rays/pix was set at 36.

As for the torus', it's generally the same make up as for the orbs but with different self made materials. Thanks for all your comments.
