Description: Bryce5.5 - an experiment to see if I could extend the landscape with cunningly placed mirrors. Here's what I did, I made a terrain and populated it with about 40 trees - placed a box around that with altitude controlled reflection object mapped, this so it was open at the top, I then placed a hill on the edge of that box - where the mist seems to pass behind the hill that is one junction of the mirror. Then I placed a snow covered peak outside the box and placed a clyndrical mirror around that - also with an altitude controlled object mapped reflecive surface - this creates the illusion of a mountain range in the background. The open boxes and clynders allow the camera to look down at the repeated images of the terrain and trees and up into the sky respectively. I added plenty of sky dome light to disguise the way the shadows behave in a contradictory fashion and placed some artifical volumetic clouds in the sky to further confuse the issue of the second mirrored junction. The number of reflections/ray depth is set to 12 and here's the result, a scene mostly made up of reflections, but hopefully you'll be hard pressed to tell that without my pointing it out. No post work.

Interesting experiment. I was a bit disappointed at the picture, the golf-course material in the foreground and the mis-sized mountain ranges. After I've read what you've done, I was thrilled. This is a very interesting way doing things. I've also tried to play with mirrors on a landscape before, but not that elaborate (with the disappointing results that come along with sluggish work). It is indeed very hard to see the transition, ebven if you point them out. Again, you follow a path no one seems to have contemplated before.

Very cleverly done! The results are extremely pleasing to my eye. It has an 'oil painting' look but with extremely fine detail. I have to give you a big 5 on this one! It's BEAUTIFUL!

Thank you. Funny I rather like the golf-course effect for some reason... oh well, no accounting for tastes, it was a fun experiment to do.
