Trisphericon 2
Description: This is not the first one I meant to upload but since that one is taking forever to render I chose this one to post first.

All comments welcome.

What do you think of this one, David?

Very nice composition. The absence of colours makes it even better. Yes, and renders with DOF take forever.

Thanks Horo!

I wonder why the other two I posted yesterday aren't up yet.

I'm rendering a 15 second AVI, 226 frames at 15 fps, 360x360 with Indeo compression, that shows the effects of varying one material parameter from 0 to 300 and back again (Pendulum Playback). It's only 94% complete after about 22 hours. I can't wait until it's done! It should look extraordinary. :-)

My first Trisphericon AVI completed in a little over 24 hours. It looks GREAT but the pendulum play didn't work. It just repeats. That's ok though. The bad thing is the file is way too large to post (over 2.5meg). I'm rerendering it at 10 fps with a 10 second duration at normal anti-aliasing. The render time is a LOT faster now! I'm hoping the file will be within the limit this time.

My attempts at posting animations have been equally thwarted by the size of the files it produces and what happens to them after compression and indeed the horrendus render times. I think you might have to make compromises with the DOF... someone suggested to me that I animated my splash image (nightmare) that render too 500hours with DOF but just a day or so without and distance masked DOF put in post. Not that I know a great deal about animation software, but it seems to me if you can get away with postwork DOF and composite the individual frames afterwards the it might be more fiddly but it may take far less computer hours. Your render is interesting, but I think maybe it could do with a bit of something to make it more acceptable in artistic terms, perhaps a splash of red?

I'm going to experiment until I create the best postable production. I'm trying Quick Time at 50% quality right now. I think I'll start posting this series to the 'Work in Progress' catagory for now.

Question, and please excuse my ignorance, what is DOF?

As for the artistic suggestion, I'm by no means finished with the images or animation of this work. I'll be experimenting with adding color, rotation, orientation and lighting angles. The finished animation I'm planning will be rendered in the standard video aspect ratio and submitted to AnimationTrip.com for consideration. My goal is to produce a work they will seriously consider using in one of their CGI music videos. That would be my ultimate achievement to date and open a door into a new carrier doing something I'm becomming very passionate about, creating visual beauty. Thank you for the suggestion! I'll certainly add that to my experimentation plans.

Stay tuned for regular progress reports and more submissions as I experiment and refine my work. ;-)

DOF

Sorry, too used to spewing out endless TLA's (three letter acronymns) DOF is depth of field - something Horo was going on about to begin with. I imagine one of the biggest difficulties with music videos is sinking stuff with the beat... the stuff I've seen which is supposed to do that automatically seems to get easily confused. I look forwards to seeing your finished anmiations.

DOF

AH! Thank you. The thing is that I'm not using that option. My long render times were because I was using Superfine AntiAliasing. Normal renders a LOT faster and at 360x360 it takes only 1.2 hours to render 100 frames to Quick Time. I'm still working on bringing the file size down to the postable limit. Forget Quick Time! Even at 50% Spacial Quality it was the biggest file yet (about 3.5 meg). I'm doing one with my original idea of AVI/Indeo at 50% quality. It should be done in another 30 minutes. I'll see if it's small enough then.
