Dazzle Paint
Description: The moment I saw this model in the Bryce Content Kit I knew I wanted to have a go at Dazzle Painting it, so here it is - if you think this looks a little odd (like something out of Austin Powers - yeah groovy baby!), here's the theory for those not familiar with dazzle painting, abstract shapes and lines and colours break up the outline of the ship - yes you can see it, but you can't easily tell which way it is facing or indeed what type of vessle it is, it's a kind of camaflage - but not the kind intended to hide you from your enemies - just make you hard to identify and target effectively. It may well come back in too since it is now technically possible to make ships invisible to radar - good old line of sight warfare may come back in! Full circle. The water is a high rez mordor fractal terrain with a slightly modifed verions of the waterfall material on it which you can find in the free resources section of my website. For those who are feeling curous as to just how wild dazzle painting has got in the past, take a look on Google Images using "dazzle paint" as your keywords. Due to the age of the images most of the pics are black and white, but I am assured the colours used were as bright as possible. Hence the "dazzle".

You know Dave, it is a little bit odd but I like it. Great way to achieve realistic waves, nice reflections, such a detail boat you've got there. The only thing that bothers me is the peak point of some of the waves. The far right for example. It seems more like a solid sea rock or something. Maybe because of the sunlight. Don't know. Or it is just a way to achieve ocean & rocks together:) Above all - good one. I'm going to the fish shop :)

Interesting camouflage, indeed. Never thought about doing such a thing to that ship. Somehow toylike. The waves are very good. I do go with richter here: form and dynamic is excellent, the material makes it more a solid therrain than water. I guess, the reflection of the sky is doing this. And: very good camera angle.
