Supernova: Evacuation!
Description: Here's a nice one using my Jump Gate. It's the entire population of an Earth like planet being evacuated to escape the devistation of an oncoming supernova. All comments welcome.

Nice

I love the tecture of the planet, and the surrounding space area.

The UFO's seem abit plain to me but that may just be me.

Thanks!

That cloud cover really gives a 3D effect to the planet. The ships are very plane, yes. I'm not as proficient with Bryce as I should be so please bear with me. I need to learn all the tricks so I can create more complex images. I have some animation ideas I want to eventually work on too. In time you'll see greater things from me. ;-)

few suggs

You know Phnx, I like what you've put here. But also (if you don't mind) I'm going to give you few advices:
1. In this kind of scenes the light would the Main Thing. Corect me if I'm mistaken but I see clear shadows of your ships on the Earth. Those one could be solved with increasing the size of the planet and give more distance to it (object from obj), or just play with the sunlight :)
2. Textures - if you want to achieve "a big time texture" (the so-called PLANETARY resolution) you should try complicating the textures (it gets heavier to rend, I know). Although it's not always like that :)
3. Camera - camera options can be really usefull in such cases (like this). try those too (zooming out etc.)
P.S.: I LOVE the ships. Actually, They've got my attention in the first place. Are there lights in there?

To Richter

Thanks for the suggestions. In time I'll be refining my eye for details and adjusting things for optimum effect.

As for the ships, the orange glow you see in the windows is actually coming from the supernova, which brings to light(pun intended) another anomaly. There's no illumination from that light on the dark side of the planet. I'll have to play with this one some more. LOL

I'm glad you like the ships. It took a little while to figure our the right Boolian technique to create those windows and sense of openness inside them. The slightly rough Titanium-like finish struck me as good for the hull of a deep space vessel. I'd love to go into one of them and create a really elaborate interior with a bridge, corridors, and you name it! My originall idea was for each of them to comfortably hold 1 million passengers + crew. LOL

I like the evolution from the previous image, but I feel that (appart from Richter's wise advice) I find the colours a little garish - I'm not say, don't use bright colours, just maybe not ones which clash so. I know I'm not the best to advise on colour use, I tend to favour almost monochrome images - so hay, take it with a pinch of salt.

Yes, this has evolved from the previous one. The planet looks quite good and I like that supernova cloud that is the reason for the emigration. The picture makes sense.

Sorry it took me so long to respond to your comments. My situation in life has been less than optimal but I have only myself to blame. I'm right now in the process of rebuilding a life that was all but a complete crash and burn. Hence the name PhoenixRising, I'm rising from the ashes of my previous life. I prefer the name Spektyr, which I've been using on the Net since 1991, so I've been signing my work with that name. I screwed up with the email address when I created that account so I created PhoenixRising so I could post right away. I asked Nightst4r to correct my mistake with Spektyr so I can use it. I am considering switching to PhoenixRising perminently since I think that name is more fitting now but I still haven't decided. Sorry. I'm rambling again. LOL

Thank you both for your compliments. Coming from accomplished artists like yourselves they are indeed praises to a fledgling like me. :-)
