Riven Tower
Riven Tower

Riven Tower
Description: This is the longest project I have worked on. It took half a day for lighting, a day of scene setup, half a day to render, and a day and a half to correct in Photoshop. The Lighting I discovered by fiddleing with a lightdome. I realized that most of the lighting is redundant, so I set about removing some. Later, I realized that all you need is a few circles of well placed radial lights to light a scene. I thought that this was a very good idea, so I made a scene to go with (this). However, They had made almost the ssame lighting system on daz almost a month ago. Rats.

Not exactly

The tower looks beautifully like the one from Riven. Where it stands, less so. Nevertheless, this is another very well done picture that at least gives the impression of Riven. Yes, and the light is very good, also the cables, pole and station for the tram.

Mistakes

Gehn's real tower is on top of the cliff, overlooking a prison built into the cliff, a gallows, a "mudball" village, several water holes, and many wood catwalks. The actual tower has no stairs, but I added them just to look good. also, in riven, the central island does not exist, and the tram is on the outside of the rock walls. Also, Riven had much more vegitation. Perhaps I can add that with Photoshop...

Really worth the effort there. Particulary like the water and the terrain the tower looks like "small", like a model for some reason, but I don't know what the answer to the ever recurring problem is. Funny you should say about the circles of light, I've been tinkering around with circles of spots to try and create a "cheap" soft light effect. Good work!

The model effect may come dfrom the fact, that the tower is dwarfed my the surrounding hills. However, it does not disturb here, because it is near the original: Riven. And then, I must say, that tower looks almost like a copy, it is so good.
