Project Codename: "Fluffy"
Description: Top left Volumetric fluff applied to spheres note the "fracture lines"

Top right Volumetric Sponge applied to spheres "fracture lines still evident"

Bottom left Volumetric fluff (as top left) applied to metaspheres note the lack of fluffyness

Bottom right Volumeric Sponge (as top right) applied to metaspheres note additional lighting required due to material going strangely dark and change in material mapping properties to metaspheres and transparency of right leg and right paw - all very weird.

Any ideas?

Odd indeed

Converting from one primitive to another is easy - select your primitives you want to convert, goto "edit" and look for the double pointy arrow in the top right hand corner, click and hover over that and a complete range of primitives will appear, slide along and release the mouse button to select and that's the conversion - last thing if you are converting from spheres to metaspheres you will have to scale them up a bit (ungrouped) and then use grouping to control their bonding properties.

for the Weird Sponge leg

I didnt understand weather you liked the leg or if you didnt but if you did it looks like a great picture if you didnt, Try see if you can add a soft negative light to darken up the leg but then then problem would arise of there being a dark spot on the floor, I dunno sorry, though I think they all look good by them selfs

Strange

Both pets made of spheres look pretty good except those odd strips. The ones with metaballs are bad. Something happens when transforming spheres to metaspheres.

Have you tried to start with metaspheres right away? When they behave the same or different, it might give a clue what's going on.

hmm...

I have never been able to apply volumetrics to metaballs. They are the only object that I cannot find a way to get volumetrics onto. Any tips? Oh, but I was supposed to give one. Uh... dunno where the fracture lines are coming from.
