Description: To me there is nothing more satisfying than individually placing 610,000 individual pebbles in Bryce.......NOT!
This is a dry run for the July Challenge.
The small rocks are actually a terrain, the ripples were created in Photoshop with KPT gradient designer, the pebbles are a texture from seamlessreality.com that was blended in the terrain editor with the afore mentioned gradient then the map was applied to the terrain in the material editor.
The render was done twice, once with 47 radial lights for soft shadows then it was rendered again without the radial lights. The two were layered in Photoshop and the opacity of the standard render was adjusted to allow the diffuse light to show thru.
Thank you all for being here!
Hope you like!

Interesting

Good use of multiple layers, like the sound of that, and terrains. The ripples are good, but I think you need to bring in a bit more of the influence of the individual pebbles onto the ripples. If you generate two height maps one for ripples and the other for pebbles at maximum rez fot the terrain edior and then use the blend facility to fiddle with the level of effect. Couple that with a pict map to match the terrain map at max rez and use the terrain height map (for the pebbles only) to generate a bump map then you will have the best chance to get the pebbles to look like individuals rather than as a rippling sheet. Such are my thoughts. Oh and the doors look a bit pale considering that they should be in shadow. I like the idea and the scale is just right.
